Journeyman Carpenter Job Opportunity

The Journeyman Carpenter

The Journeyman carpenter’s primary task is to complete construction projects at the direction of WillowRidge management personnel, or the project foremen and supervisors. Journeyman carpenters are expected to have a wide breadth of knowledge in many different aspects of the construction field. With a few exceptions, we would consider five years of intensive construction experience to be a minimum requisite for a beginning journeyman. Journeyman carpenters should be self motivated, and self sufficient; able to receive basic instruction and understand what is expected without extended discussions.

Our current priority is to hire carpenters who have extensive framing experience.

Specific Duties:

1. Always arrive to the jobsite a few minutes early so that you are prepared to start on time.

2. Come prepared for a variety of tasks that may arise throughout the day i.e. inside work, outdoor work, rain, mud, etc.

3. As a Journeyman Carpenter it is important that you have the tools you need to complete a wide variety of projects. There are many tools that you will need to accomplish different tasks, but the following is a list of basic tools that you will be required to have with you on the job:

  • Toolbelt with basic hand tools.

  • Pry bars, wonder bar, cat’s paw, etc.

  • Hand Saw(s)

  • A set of sharp chisels

  • Levels – Torpedo level, 2’ level, 4’ level, 6’ level.

  • Cordless drill and impact driver, and a variety of bits and tips

  • Circular saw (SkilSaw or similar)

  • Sawzall

  • Miter Saw

  • Air Compressor

  • Various Nail guns/Pneumatic tools

  • Organizing system to keep your personal tools together, neat, and orderly.

  • The list is endless, but the expectation is that you be prepared for nearly any carpentry project that you are faced with. WillowRidge Construction has a large inventory of tools to supplement the projects as needed.

4. Be aware of the basic safety equipment that is required for you to complete your tasks without injury. Always wear safety glasses when you are doing anything that could cause an injury to your eyes (pretty much all the time). Wear hearing protection if you are operating tools or equipment, or if you are working in the vicinity of loud tools or equipment. Wear work gloves if necessary.

5. Always wear work boots, or rubber work boots. We strongly recommend steel-toed work boots. The following types of footwear are not acceptable for a construction site: Flip flops, sandals, tennis shoes, sneakers, hiking shoes, cheap rubber boots, cowboy boots, etc. Occasionally it is necessary to have a pair of smooth soled ‘sneakers’ if you will be working for an extended period of time in a finished space. Always remove your outdoor boots before stepping into a finished space of any kind – no exceptions.
